Smokey Bear In The City

The LA-area fires are raging and I was asked to compile resources for folks not yet prepared for wildfires.

When we come up for air I can write a full infodump like I did for earthquakes, but here are some helpful links in the meantime:

LAist: Evacuation cheatsheet

Mutual Aid LA Network: January 2025 Fire & Wind Storm Resource Library

IWIs (Incident Within an Incident), as heard on the V-1 LA County Fire Command Channel in 2025:

  • Civilians flying drones (including a near-miss with a fire helicopter)
  • Civilians refusing to evacuate
  • Civilians impeding rescue personnel
  • Civilians entering the evacuation zone
  • Civilians leaving cars in the middle of the road
  • Civilians bicycling the dozer line

Be smarter than the above incidents.
Be prepared.
Be kind.

As always, please remember I am not responsible for your life nor safety.
Research the above and make your own decisions–-don’t assume everyone on the internet is correct.
